Sinking Like a Rock

jackson (6k image)Linked below is a full page ad that Rolling Stone put in the New York Times. Reminds me of a Quincey Jones interview where he talks about how Michael Jackson wanted him to produce his next album. All the record execs were against it. Michael finally told them he was going to use Q whether they liked it or not. The result was one of the biggest selling albums in history. Guess what I'm getting at is that record execs are not exactly famous for being forward thinkers.

Real Men Don't Need No Hard Drive

realman (5k image)Past couple days my desktop machine has been running with absolutely no hard drive. Booted into Linux without the hassle of an install by using Knoppix. Browsing the web, checking email, playing chess, etc. Try doing that with Windows...

Set aside 7 gigs on the DJ box for a Linux partition. Can't decide which distro to put on there. Since it's the fastest machine I got right now, of course it has to run Linux too. Maybe someday I can DJ using GDAM, but I suspect that a 1 gig Pentium III is too slow for that. For now, I'm stuck using Windows. Ah well, whatever works.

from michael: How'd ya get that picture of yourself. Very animated.

    The sniper's back...

Anyway's, I am done with windows. I ordered the personal edition of Red Hat Linux. Don't mind spending $40 rather than get my research trashed as it got recently by win98

The new Redhat is supposed to be pretty good. It's certainly the most popular one. I don't recommend Linux for people. It's kind of a religious experience. You either see the visions or you don't. Most people are probably better off sticking with M$ stuff. One of the articles I read before switching was :

The Linux Distribution Game

http://www.distrowatch.com/game.php

I think what he says in the article is true. About not really being able to switch as long as there is a windows partition around to boot into. At least, it was for me. I was never able to completely go over to linux until I formatted all my hard drives.

True...I am hoping to move over slowly with a Linux partition, and hope to complete the transition soon (now that better games are coming out for the XBOX and I don't use the PC, much, for games)

Movies, Music, Comic, Computer... Go!

nerdbike (5k image)Finished watching St. John's Wort today. I recommend it for those that are into japanese horror films. Not the best of the ones I have seen recently, but I really liked what they did with the film in post production. Interesting concept. Kind of reminds me of what happens with a lot of hollywood movies--they spend so much time and money on the special effects that they neglect other aspects of the film making process.

After that I watched another japanese film: "Turn". Kind of a non comedic riff on "Groundhog Day". A young woman gets in a car accident and is knocked into the previous day, which she experiences endlessly, over and over--except that there is no one else in all of Tokyo. Good film.

Before I forget, I made a new comic today. Borrowing and modifying a comment made by MisterE. If you know who that is cool, if not I'm not saying...

Went mountain biking yesterday. Pretty tame for my buddy Damon but I was out of breath most of the time and could never quite manage to arrange the seat in way that agreed with my genitals. Fun experience though and I look forward to doing it again. At one point I got kind of out of control--I was on the verge of crashing by either going to fast, or too slow. I didn't realize you could get in a situation like that but learned pretty fast.

Michael treated me to a new processor for my dj box. Very cool of him, thanks Michael. I think I was the only one who really noticed but when I would dj sometimes the mp3s would skip as I was mixing. I always needed a faster processor, and now I have one. The entire dj system is rock solid now.

where did you go mountainbiking? It's a cool experience downhill, but uphill is quite bad! Topanga has some very nice trails
