The Idiot
Got tired of buying batteries for my pocket computer all the time. This happened some time ago, and I started using the ones that came with the mini-cd mp3 player I've had for a while. That's how I started using NiMH batteries. When they needed to be charged I would pull them out and charge them while a set of good old alkaline batteries kept the memory from being erased.
This was a good routine--it kept me from having to spend a lot of money on batteries--but it got old. I was in Frys yesterday and went to the battery isle to pick up another set. That way there would always be a set of charged NiMH batteries ready to go. I scoured the shelves for the cheapest ones. Mostly they run between 8 to 10 dollars for a pair of AAA's, but then I noticed they had some marked as $ 0.90. OUCH! I bought all eleven packs.
I was a little worried that they were marked down because they were crap (they didn't look scottish, you do the math.) When this type of battery was first introduced they had trouble with them leaking. Especially the AAA ones.
So, I just charged a couple sets of them and the charger gave me the green light. SCORE! a hundred dollars worth of batteries for ~10 bux.
Big deal ya say? Now I can take a trip to Nepal while having enough juice to get through the collected works of Dostoevsky. Think about it....
